about

Recorded and mixed in sunny Austin, Texas, 2013.

Every Shape A Diamond (ESD) is a post-jazz-rock-nu-wave duo from Austin, Texas. The core members of the duo are David Pavkovic, Joshua LaRue, and Dell the shiny computer.

Pavkovic and LaRue first crossed paths in 2001 through the indie-rock-jazz juggernaut know as HiM, the continually evolving group helmed by Doug Scharin. With HiM, Larue and Pavkovic survived awesomely treacherous tours across North America and Europe. By 2008, chance had it that both Pavkovic and Larue settled in Austin Texas and ESD was born. Initially an experimental weekly jam session, the duo soon began writing tunes and in the process, fully embraced Dell the shiny computer as a completely agreeable third member.

LaRue is known for his guitar work and leadership of indie-rock bands from the DC area including The Sorts, and Played Tomorrow. Larue has also played with Mice Parade and with Tim Kerr in the Austin powerhouse Jack O' Fire.

A long-time Chicagoan, still adjusting to the hot winds and scorpions of Tejas, Pavkovic has done all kinds of music: avant-garde jazz, theater and television scoring, and his seminal work with Chicago's Exciting Trio, Tricolor, Toe, and more.

After much playing and thinking, Every Shape A Diamond has recorded their debut record. The album is an instrumental affair, built upon LaRue's Bill Frisell meets Tom Verlaine by way of Billy Gibbons guitar work and Pavkovic's wild-man-in-the-groove drumming. Mixing with this are electronic sounds from Dell the shiny computer fully grounded in the Thomas Dolby record that ESD loves so much. The work is unique and may even be somewhat accessible.
